Under “Accessibility” you adapt font, motion and colors of the writing surface to your needs.

What is it for?

Not everyone reads and writes on a screen equally well. The “Accessibility” section of the account settings therefore bundles aids for the editor: a font for dyslexia or low vision, Bionic Reading, less motion, smaller intermediate goals and softer colors for the writing surface.

All aids affect only the display. Your saved text and your exports stay unchanged. You can turn them on and off individually and try them out in the editor right away.

One aid comes with a caveat: Bionic Reading bolds the beginnings of words. For some people this makes reading easier, but it is not a clinically validated method. Try out whether it helps you. The best way to find out which aids help you is to try them.

How it works

  1. Open the account settings and choose the “Accessibility” section.

What you see afterwards: The aids appear as a list.

  2. Under “Dyslexia / low-vision font”, choose “OpenDyslexic” or “Atkinson Hyperlegible”.

What you see afterwards: The editor switches the font, and line height and word spacing adapt.

  3. If you like, turn on “Bionic Reading (bolds the start of each word)”.

What you see afterwards: In the editor, the beginnings of words are bold.

  4. Under “Reduce motion”, set whether Illumentis follows the system setting or you turn animation reduction on or off yourself.

What you see afterwards: Animations follow your choice.

  5. If you like, choose the “Writing surface color spectrum” (“Default”, “Sepia” or “Pastel blue”) and turn on “Dopamine micro-milestones ("ADHD mode")”.

What you see afterwards: The writing surface changes its color, and the editor shows the goal for the next 50 or so words.

Who can do this?

Every signed-in user sets these aids for their own account. You do not need special access for this.

Your data

Illumentis stores the settings in your account. They apply on every device and are part of your data access. Others do not see them.

Limits

The aids change only the display in the editor, not your saved content or exports. The dyslexia font is independent of the editor font. Bionic Reading is not a clinically validated method. If you turn off the Engine Status Rail, you see new findings of the Illuminatio Engine only in the list of continuity flags.

Frequently asked questions

Does the dyslexia font change my exports?

No. All aids in this section affect only the display in the editor.

What does “ADHD mode” show?

Instead of the goal for the whole chapter, the editor shows the goal for the next 50 or so words and briefly reports when you have reached it.
