Who can do this?
Owners and co-authors with the right for custom fields add, change and remove fields. They enter the values on the entries. Guests only see fields that are shared with guests.
Custom fields
Custom fields add details that Illumentis does not provide, for example a favorite dish, to your profiles.
What is it for?
Every story has its own particularities: a degree of magic, a title, a guild membership. Where the built-in fields are not enough, you add your own extra fields. A field consists of a name and a type: text, number, date or yes/no. The input form adapts to the type.
A field definition applies to all entries of one kind in the project, regardless of the book. If you add a field called favorite dish for characters, every character in the project has it. You enter the values in the detail view of the entry, in the “Custom fields” section.
For each field, you decide whether guests can see it. If you remove a field, the values already entered stay saved. Before that, the dialog tells you for how many entries the field will be removed.
How it works

For example, open the character overview and choose “Manage custom fields”.
What you see afterwards: The dialog lists all fields for characters in this project.

Under “Add a new field for all characters”, enter a name, choose the type and choose “+ Add field”.
What you see afterwards: The field appears in the list.

Switch “Visible to guests” on or off for the field.
What you see afterwards: Guests see the field only if the switch is on.

Open a character, enter the value in the “Custom fields” section and choose “Save”.
What you see afterwards: “Saved.”
Your data
Field definitions and values belong to the project and are backed up and exported with it. When you remove a field, the values stay saved.
Limits
Fields exist for characters, locations, factions, rules, languages and means of transport. A field name has at most 255 characters, a value at most 10,000. A field applies to all entries of its kind in the project. There is no limit on the number of fields in the Free plan.
