Lore easter egg network

Available Free Last reviewed: 24 Oct 2026

Easter eggs are small worldbuilding details that you share with others and adopt from others into your project.

What is it for?

A kind of wine, a legend, the name of a shop: small details like these bring a world to life. With the lore easter egg network, you share them with other authors. They can build them into their own, independent projects without creating any obligation to treat them as canon.

You share a detail about a location in your project and give it its own title and, optionally, a description. Illumentis creates a separate copy of the title and description. Later changes to the location do not affect it. In the network’s browser, you look through what others have shared.

Adopting only records that your project uses an easter egg. It does not copy any content into your project and does not give the source project access rights to yours. Sharing is a deliberate, public action.

How it works

  1. Open a location in your project and choose “Share as easter egg”.

What you see afterwards: A small form with “Easter egg title” and an optional description appears.

  2. Enter a title and, if you like, a description, and choose “Share”.

    What you see afterwards: “Shared.”

  3. Under “Progress”, in the group “Looking back & discoveries”, open the “Easter eggs” tile.

What you see afterwards: The “Lore Easter Egg Network” shows all shared easter eggs.

  4. For an easter egg, choose your project and, optionally, a book, and choose “Adopt”.

What you see afterwards: The easter egg carries the mark “Already adopted.”

Who can do this?

Owners and co-authors with write access in the source project can share, as long as their community access is not blocked. Anyone with write access to their own project can adopt. Every active author account can browse, even if community access is blocked.

Your data

The title and description of a shared easter egg are stored encrypted in the shared library and can be read by all authors. Illumentis stores the project it comes from and, if you choose, the reference to the location. No copy of the location is created.

Limits

Titles have at most 255 characters, descriptions at most 10,000. The interface currently offers no way to take back a shared easter egg. Adopting only stores a note and does not copy any content. So share only details that others are allowed to see.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to my location when I share it as an easter egg?

Nothing. Illumentis creates a separate copy of the title and description. Your location stays unchanged and remains only in your project.

Can I remove a shared easter egg again?

The interface does not offer this at the moment. Before sharing, consider whether the title and description may be public.

Does the source project get access to my project when I adopt an easter egg?

No. Adopting only writes a note that your project uses the easter egg. It does not change any access rights.
