Publisher submission and publication metadata

Available Vastitas Last reviewed: 24 Oct 2026

The page collects metadata, blurb, synopsis and content warnings as working material for your submission.

What is it for?

For a submission to a publisher you need more than the text. You reach the “Publishing submission” page from the book page, and it is divided into four tabs: Book Metadata, Blurb, Synopsis and Content Warnings. Everything is working material. Illumentis does not submit anything to publishers itself.

The book metadata records subtitle, author name or pseudonym, genre tags, target audience and comp titles. Blurb and synopsis are versioned: you save each draft as a new version and can bring back earlier ones. The blurb is a promotional text without spoilers; the synopsis summarizes the plot including the resolution.

Content warnings are a free-form set of tags such as violence, addiction or loss, purely informational. The Tavern Test helps with the elevator pitch: you write it in a few sentences and, if you like, take it over as target audience or comp title. Filling these in for the first time is part of the Vastitas studio.

How it works

  1. On the book page, choose “Publishing submission”.

What you see afterwards: The “Publishing Submission & Metadata” page opens with four tabs.

  2. In the “Book Metadata” tab, fill in the fields and choose “Save”.

    What you see afterwards: “Saved.”

  3. In the “Blurb” or “Synopsis” tab, write the text and choose “Save new version”.

What you see afterwards: The version appears under “Earlier versions”.

  4. In the “Content Warnings” tab, enter a warning and choose “Add”.

What you see afterwards: The warning is in the list.

Who can do this?

Owners and co-authors with write access to the book maintain the details. Filling in the metadata for the first time, new versions of blurb and synopsis, and new content warnings require an active Vastitas studio of the project owner; a trial period is not enough.

Your data

Metadata, versions and warnings belong to the book and are backed up with the project. Earlier versions of blurb and synopsis stay available.

Limits

Without an active studio, existing details stay visible, editable and deletable; nothing new can be created then. Subtitle, author name and target audience have at most 255 characters each, genre tags and comp titles at most 200 entries. The Tavern Test counts up to 280 characters. Content warnings have no effect on other modules.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between blurb and synopsis?

The blurb is a promotional text without spoilers. The synopsis summarizes the whole plot including the resolution and the ending.

What happens when my studio plan ends?

Existing details, versions and warnings stay visible and can be changed or removed. New versions and new warnings require an active studio.

What is the Tavern Test for?

You practice your elevator pitch with a character counter and take it over with a click as target audience or as a comp title.
