Forum: topics and posts

A thread is a series of posts that you reply to, report and mark with a like.

What is it for?

A thread consists of a series of posts that appear page by page. At the top are the title, the link back to the category and, if there are any, the thread’s moderators (“Moderated by …”). Pinned threads carry 📌, locked ones 🔒. Each post has an author card with the name on the left and the text on the right.

You reply below the last post in the “New reply to the thread…” field, or directly to a single post with “Reply”. A star on the thread gives a like for the whole thread. If a thread contains a poll, you select an option and vote with “Vote”.

You can send other people’s posts to the team for review with “Report”. Your own posts can be neither edited nor deleted in the interface. Deleting, locking, pinning and warnings are handled by the moderation team.

How it works

  1. Open a thread in a category, or choose “+ New thread” and fill in “Title” and “Post”.

What you see afterwards: The thread appears with your post.

  2. Write in the “New reply to the thread…” field and choose “Reply”.

What you see afterwards: Your reply is at the end of the thread.

  3. Choose “Reply” on a post to respond to it directly.

What you see afterwards: The new post shows “Reply to …” with the person’s name.

  4. Choose the star on the thread.

What you see afterwards: The “likes” counter goes up and the star is filled. Another click takes the signal back.

  5. For someone else’s post, choose “Report” and describe the situation under “What happened?”.

What you see afterwards: The report goes to the team for review.

Who can do this?

All active accounts with author rights read, reply (in open threads and writable categories), give likes, vote and report other people’s posts. Deleting posts, locking or pinning threads, creating polls and issuing warnings are reserved for the moderation team; a thread moderator may only delete posts in their own thread and lock it.

Your data

Your posts appear under your display name, or under a persona that has been assigned to you. You find a warning in your account under “Forum warnings” and confirm it with “Acknowledge”. Your forum posts are part of your data access.

Limits

A post can have at most 10,000 characters, a title at most 255. Illumentis shows 20 posts per page. In locked threads and in “Moderators only” categories, the reply form is not shown. Anyone who is excluded from the community because of a sanction cannot write. There are no reactions other than a like.
