Author identities and Name#Tag

Available Free Last reviewed: 24 Oct 2026

Others see your display name with a tag; your email address stays hidden.

What is it for?

Illumentis does not show your email address to other accounts. Instead, they meet you with your display name and a tag of four digits after a hash sign, for example Anna#1234. The tag tells accounts with the same name apart. You set your display name in your account settings.

Whoever you want to address in Illumentis, you find through Name#Tag: for a new message, for an invitation to a club, for shares and for co-authors. The input field expects the format “DisplayName#1234”. The name and the tag together must match exactly; there is no search by parts of a name.

If the operator has assigned a persona to you, you can use “Post as:” in the forum and in direct messages to choose whether your post appears under your own name or under the persona.

How it works

  1. Set your “Display name” in the account settings and choose “Save”.

What you see afterwards: Illumentis assigns you a tag; your name appears with #tag for others.

  2. Share your name together with the tag with the person who wants to invite or message you.

What you see afterwards: They enter it in the “DisplayName#1234” field.

  3. Click another person’s name and choose “Copy Name#Tag”.

What you see afterwards: The name and tag are in your clipboard.

  4. For a post or message, if offered, choose your persona under “Post as:”.

What you see afterwards: The post appears under the persona name.

Who can do this?

Every account sets its own display name. Looking someone up by Name#Tag is open to signed-in accounts. Personas are assigned by the operator; you cannot create them yourself.

Your data

A lookup only returns public details such as the display name and tag, not the email address. If the name or the tag is missing, or they do not match, the same message appears, so that nobody can guess which part was missing. Posts under a persona can be reported and are attributed to the actual account.

Limits

You do not choose the tag yourself: Illumentis assigns four digits. If your display name changes, you get a new tag. Lookups are limited in frequency, so that nobody can try out all the tags of a name. A deleted account appears as “Former user” without a tag.

Frequently asked questions

Can anyone see my email address?

Other accounts do not see it. They find you through your display name and the tag.

Why did my tag change?

The tag only applies together with the display name. With a new name, Illumentis assigns a new tag.

What does “No account found with this name and tag.” mean?

There is no active account with exactly this combination. Check the spelling and the tag.

How do I create a persona?

You cannot: personas are assigned by the operator. Without an assigned persona, you do not see the “Post as:” selection.
