Worldbuilding jam

Available Free Last reviewed: 24 Oct 2026

In the worldbuilding jam you submit an existing location for a given theme and see the gallery.

What is it for?

The worldbuilding jam is a contest around a given, playful theme. Instead of writing a new text, you submit a location that you have already created in one of your projects. You do not need a separate editor for this.

The page shows the current theme with its task, and below it the form for submitting and the gallery. If no jam is running at the moment, a notice appears there. Moderators create new themes.

When you submit, a snapshot of the location is created: name, type, description and climate. The gallery shows it to all authors with forum access. Check beforehand what the location contains, and think about whether you want to make it visible to others. Your location in the project is not affected.

How it works

  1. In the “Inspiration” area, open the “Worldbuilding Jam”.

What you see afterwards: The page shows the theme and the task. If no jam is running, it says “No worldbuilding jam is currently running.”

  2. Under “Submit a location”, first choose the project (“Choose project”), then the location (“Choose location”).

What you see afterwards: The selection shows your own locations.

  3. Choose “Submit”.

What you see afterwards: “Submitted - will appear in the gallery shortly.”

  4. Take a look at the “Gallery”.

What you see afterwards: It shows the submissions for the current theme. Without submissions, it says “No submissions for this theme yet.”

Who can do this?

You can submit if you have forum access, are not blocked and have write access to the location, that is, owners and co-authors with rights on locations. Everyone with forum access sees the gallery. Forum moderators create new themes.

Your data

A submission contains the name, type, description and climate of the location as a snapshot. It lives in the gallery, not in your project. Your location stays unchanged.

Limits

A theme only accepts submissions between its start and its end. A submission appears in the gallery only after a short while, because it is processed in the background. The interface offers no way to take back a submission.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my submission not appear in the gallery right away?

Illumentis processes it in the background. The confirmation says “will appear in the gallery shortly”. Reload the page after a short while.

Who creates the jam themes?

Forum moderators. Under “Create new theme”, they set the title, the task, the start and the end.

What do others see of my location?

The name, type, description and climate, as they were at the time of the submission. Later changes to the location do not appear there.
