Who can do this?
Whoever may read a chapter in the editor can read it in the preview, too; the same check applies. There is no separate permission for it.

The book preview shows the saved chapter text as a plain reading view, without tools.
Sometimes you just want to see how a chapter reads, without exporting or printing. That is what the book preview is for. It shows the saved text of your chapters one after the other, without the toolbar and side panels, in a calm reading typography.
You page through the book with “← Previous chapter” and “Next chapter →” and return to the book page with “← Book”. The same read permissions apply as in the editor: whoever may read a chapter there can read it here, too.
The preview is not an exact rendering of the export. It does not reproduce the font, line spacing and indentation of the export templates. The export area is the place to check what the finished file looks like.
On the book page, choose “Read preview”.
What you see afterwards: The “Preview: …” view with the book title opens at the first chapter.
Read the chapter and move on with “Next chapter →”.
What you see afterwards: The next chapter appears. With “← Previous chapter” you go back.
Choose “← Book” to return to the book page.
What you see afterwards: The book page opens.

The preview shows only the saved text and does not create any data of its own. As in the editor, opening a chapter counts as activity on that chapter.
The preview does not reproduce the font, line spacing and indentation of the export templates. A book without chapters shows “This book has no chapters yet.” Nothing can be changed in the preview; to edit, open the chapter in the editor.
No. It is a simple reading view and does not reproduce the export templates. You check what the finished file looks like in the export area.
No. The view is for reading only. To make changes, open the chapter in the editor.
Opening a chapter counts as activity, even in the preview. That is why it can appear as the most recently edited chapter.
