Privacy and public profile

Available Free Last reviewed: 24 Oct 2026

Under “Data & Privacy” you decide what Illumentis sends, who can message you and what others see.

What is it for?

In the account settings, the “Data & Privacy” section bundles everything that concerns your privacy. There you decide whether Illumentis may send anonymous error reports, who may write you direct messages and what others see on your profile.

The defaults are cautious: anonymous data is not sent, and bio, talent tree progress and collaboration proof are not visible to others. You turn on only what you want to show. With one switch, you make your whole profile private at once.

In addition, you can store your name and address for legal purposes, for example for a publisher submission. These details are voluntary and stored encrypted in your account. Administrators cannot view them either.

How it works

  1. Open the account settings and choose the “Data & Privacy” section.

What you see afterwards: The sections appear one below the other.

  2. Decide on the “Send anonymous latency & sync data to help optimize the app” switch. It is off by default.

What you see afterwards: Only when it is on does Illumentis transmit automatically detected error reports.

  3. Under “Who can send me direct messages?”, choose between “Everyone”, “Mutual followers only” and “Friends only” and choose “Save”.

    What you see afterwards: “Saved.”

  4. Under “Public profile”, adjust the “About me” text and the “Visible to other accounts” switches and choose “Save”.

    What you see afterwards: “Saved.”

  5. If you like, enter your name and address under “Legal data” and choose “Save”.

    What you see afterwards: “Saved.”

Who can do this?

Every signed-in user changes these settings for their own account. Other signed-in authors see the profile page. If your profile is private, they see only the basic details (display name, Name#Tag, avatar) and the notice “This profile is private.”.

Your data

Error reports contain the technical history, no content. From page addresses, Illumentis removes everything from the question mark onward. They are sent only with your consent. Illumentis stores the name and address under “Legal data” encrypted, and only you can read them. Illumentis includes them in your data access.

Limits

The “About me” text has at most 500 characters. Books you have published in the Library of Alexandria stay discoverable there even if your profile is private; you remove them from there separately. The default for direct messages is “Everyone”.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does the switch for anonymous data send?

Automatically detected error reports with the technical history. Illumentis removes everything from the question mark onward from page addresses and sends only with your consent. Under “Recently transmitted error reports” you see when this actually happened. Without transmission, it says “No error reports have been transmitted yet.”

What does the switch for a private profile do?

It hides bio and all badges on your profile page, even if individual visibility switches are on.

Can an admin read my legal data?

No. No admin and not even user management can view them. Only you see and change them.
