In the account settings you change your password, email address and display name; the first two need confirmation.
Your password and email address are the keys to your account. You make every change yourself, without help from the administration. That is why Illumentis asks for proof with each change: you confirm your current password or a current code from your authenticator app.
Your email address changes in two steps. First you confirm through your previous address, then through the new one. That way nobody can swap your address unnoticed, even if they briefly sit at your signed-in device.
The display name is the name other people see, for example in co-author lists and in the forum. It needs no confirmation, because it is not an access factor. If you leave it empty, Illumentis uses the part of your email address before the @.
Open the account settings and choose the “Account & Security” section.
What you see afterwards: The sections “Change password”, “Change email address” and “Display name” appear one below the other.
Password: Confirm your current password or a current code, enter “New password” and “Confirm new password”, and choose “Change password”.
What you see afterwards: “Password changed. All other sessions have been signed out.”
Email address: Enter the “New email address”, confirm who you are, and choose “Request change”.
What you see afterwards: “Confirmation link sent to your current address.”
Open the email sent to your current address and click the link. Then open the email sent to the new address and click the link there as well.
What you see afterwards: “Your email address has been changed.”
Display name: Enter the name in the “Display name” field and choose “Save”.
What you see afterwards: “Saved.”
Every signed-in person changes these details for their own account. For the password and the email address you need your current password or a current code. The display name needs no proof.
Your display name is visible to others. If it changes, it gets a new #Tag. Without a name of your own, Illumentis derives it from the part of your email address before the @. So enter a name of your own if you do not want to reveal your address.
The new password has 8 to 128 characters. At most 5 password changes and 5 address requests are possible per hour. Each confirmation link for the address is valid for 24 hours. Until both links are confirmed, your previous address stays valid. On the other devices, signing out discards locally saved changes that had not been synced yet.
Illumentis ends all other sessions so that nobody stays signed in with the old password. Your current device stays signed in.
Check your spam folder. You can request the change again, up to 5 times per hour. The link in the latest email is valid for 24 hours.
Yes. Illumentis then uses the part of your email address before the @ again. The #Tag is dropped in that case.
