Who can do this?
Owners and co-authors search in their project. If a co-author is limited to individual books, characters, locations, factions, rules and chapters appear only from those books. Guests have no search.

The search page and the spotlight search your project for six kinds of entries.
Illumentis offers two ways to search within a project: the search page (the “Search” tile in the “Tools” area of the project overview) and the global spotlight, a small search window that you open with Ctrl or Cmd and K. Both search the same content of the current project and show the results grouped by kind.
The search applies to a single project. Content from other projects does not appear in the results. It searches characters, locations, factions, rules, glossary terms and chapters. You type words; there is no query language of its own.
If you do not want to search but to change specific text, use “Search & Replace”. In the spotlight you can also pin results directly to the context bar of the editor.
Open a project and, in the project overview under “Tools”, choose the “Search” tile.
What you see afterwards: The search page opens with the field “Enter search term…”.
Enter a search term and choose “Search”.
What you see afterwards: The results appear under headings such as “Characters”, “Locations” or “Chapters”, each with a short text excerpt. Without results, it says “No results.”
Choose a result.
What you see afterwards: The entry or the chapter opens in the editor.
Inside a project, press Ctrl and K (Cmd and K on a Mac) to open the spotlight.
What you see afterwards: A search window appears with the input field focused; the search starts on its own shortly after you type.
Choose a result to open it, or “Pin” to attach it to the context bar. Close the window with Esc.
What you see afterwards: You jump to the entry or find it again among your pinned entries.

The search reads only titles and text from your project, with a separate index for each project. Illumentis stores nothing about you in the process and does not use AI. A pin that you set in the spotlight belongs to your project and appears in the context bar.
Illumentis shows at most 20 results per search; if there are too many, a more precise term helps. Only six kinds of entries can be searched; maps, artifacts, subplots and research notes are not among them. Deleted entries do not appear, and new or changed entries can be found only shortly after saving. The spotlight opens only inside a project, not on the shelf.
Characters, locations, factions, rules, glossary terms and chapters. Other kinds, such as maps or research notes, are not part of the search.
From three characters on, the search also finds word beginnings. With one or two characters, it looks only for whole words.
Yes, the index splits such scripts, for example Chinese or Japanese, into pairs of characters and can therefore find them even without spaces.
The spotlight belongs to a project and opens only when you are inside a project.
