To-do and notes list

Available Free Last reviewed: 24 Oct 2026

The notes list catches ideas and open questions without pulling you out of your writing.

What is it for?

While writing, you often think of something you do not want to work out right away: a character idea, a location, a rule or an open question. The notes list takes in such thoughts in seconds, without you leaving the editor. Later you work through them, mark them as done or discard them.

Each entry has a type and a short text. The type helps with filtering: character idea, location idea, rule/world-system idea, language idea, open question or other. The status shows whether an entry is still open, done or discarded.

The notes list is purely a place to store notes. It does not create characters, locations or rules automatically. You turn whatever should become something into it yourself.

How it works

  1. In the notes list, choose “New entry”, or in the chapter editor “+ TODO”.

What you see afterwards: A dialog opens.

  2. Choose the “Type” and enter a “Short text”.

What you see afterwards: The entry appears in the list with the status “Open”.

  3. Later, narrow down the list with “All types” and “All statuses”.

What you see afterwards: The list shows only the matching entries.

  4. For an entry, choose “Mark done”, “Discard” or “Reopen”.

What you see afterwards: The status changes.

Who can do this?

Owners and co-authors with rights create entries, edit them, move them to the trash and restore them.

Your data

Entries belong to the project and are backed up and exported with it. Entries captured in the editor carry a note about the chapter. An entry in the trash is kept for 30 days.

Limits

The notes list does not create entries in other areas. The note “Captured in editor” currently shows the ID of the chapter, not its title. There is no quantity limit for entries on the Free plan.

Frequently asked questions

Does a “Character idea” entry automatically become a character?

No. The notes list is only a place to store notes. You create the character yourself.

Where do I capture an entry without leaving the editor?

In the chapter editor with “+ TODO”. That creates an entry with a note that it was captured in the editor.

Can I reopen an entry that is done?

Yes, with “Reopen”. You restore entries that were moved to the trash from the trash.
