Guest view

Available Free Last reviewed: 24 Oct 2026

Guests read shared content in a reduced view and comment depending on their access level.

What is it for?

Guests you have invited through a share reach the shared content from the shelf. A book share opens the book overview, the guest hub; a single object opens its detail view directly. A notice bar at the top says who the access comes from and which level applies.

In the guest hub, people read the shared chapters under “Chapters & scenes”. With the level “Read + comment”, they comment on individual paragraphs or react with an emoji. Shared characters, locations, factions, glossary terms and rules appear with the fields you have shared.

A watermark with the account and the time sits on the screen, and copying is blocked for reading and commenting guests. Both are meant to deter people from passing content on; they are not a technical protection.

How it works

  1. Sign in after the invitation.

What you see afterwards: The shared book or object appears on the shelf.

  2. Open the book and choose the “Chapters & scenes” tile.

What you see afterwards: The chapter list shows the shared chapters, and scenes are numbered.

  3. Read a chapter. With the level “Read + comment”, choose “Add a comment to this paragraph” next to a paragraph.

What you see afterwards: Your comment appears at the paragraph with a counter.

  4. Choose “Add a reaction to this paragraph” and an emoji.

What you see afterwards: Your reaction appears at the paragraph.

Who can do this?

Guests only see what has been shared with them. “Read only” allows reading, “Read + comment” adds comments and reactions, and “Editorial/publisher” adds change suggestions and export. Guests do not see the authors’ margin notes and planning tools.

Your data

Guest access is recorded in the project’s access log. The watermark shows the account and the time on screen. Comments and reactions belong to the project.

Limits

Watermark and copy block are meant to deter, they are not a technical protection. Passing content on outside the app, for example through photos or screenshots, is at the guests’ own risk. For shares of single objects, “No fields are currently released for guests on this object.” appears if nothing has been selected.

Frequently asked questions

Which emoji reactions are there?

Plot twist, Emotional, Drags on, Favorite spot and Confusing. They are quick feedback without text.

Why can’t I comment as a guest?

The share needs the level “Read + comment” or “Editorial/publisher” for that. With “Read only”, the view stays read-only.

Do I see the content warnings as a guest?

If the author has set content warnings for the book, they appear as a notice titled “Content/trigger warnings for this book”.
